Staying Committed This Time #Reasons

It’s that time of year when just a few weeks ago we were all reflecting on our lives, setting goals to better ourselves and resolving to make positive changes.  Most of us are already struggling to stay committed to what we felt so strongly about only 14 days ago.

Just the other day I was meeting with a group of women that I am supporting through their weight loss journey.  I asked each person to share the reason that they are committed to losing weight.  Before they started I wanted them to think seriously about what it will take for them to stay committed to their goal, to the end.  What’s the purpose, passion and desire that will drive you to make your dreams come true?  Can you picture and feel yourself reaching your goal?  Why is it worth all of focus, planning, preparing and huge sacrifices?  “I just want to feel and look better” won’t cut it!  The answers I got were inspiring and reminded me that true commitment comes from being true to YOU.  What do you really want for your life, without anybody else’s influence?  This is the reason that you will stay committed to your goal during the times when you are being tempted by comfort and old habits are starting to creep back in.

My favorite answer came from one of the quieter and more reserved ladies in the group.  She’s been with the group for awhile and has never really “opened up” about why losing weight is important to her, except for the standard “I want to feel better about myself.”  The reason that she wants to feel better about herself is where her true commitment lies.  She finally shared with us that she has been a single mother and has not dated for over 10 years.  She wants to start dating again!  It’s THAT desire that helps her stay committed to her weight loss goal…she’s lost over 30 pounds and is still going strong!

What’s the passion that drives you to achieve?  It’s the key to staying committed this time!
