Has the cold, dark winter left you feeling sluggish, tired, bloated and fat? Are you ready to bring that body out of hibernation? Do you feel like getting rid of all the toxins, poisons and winter-time food debauchery? Well then a good, healthy, all-natural detox might be for you! Start by cutting all processed and starchy carbs, alcohol, dairy, sugar and caffeine from your current diet. Then start adding in these top 5 foods to spring-clean out your insides and make you feel like new! Remember, drink more water and eat more greens!

TEA: The polyphenols in tea leaves help to detoxify the body naturally. Popular herbal “detox” teas contain a blend of herbs with special detoxification and cleansing properties. Herbal and detoxification teas don’t usually tend to carry caffeine, but check the label. CABBAGE: A natural diuretic that is used to help expel excess fluids in the body. Cabbage is made up of approximately 92% water and is known for being a perfect source of many essential vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber. It’s also a rich source of vitamin C, K, E, A and folic acid.

GARLIC: Ahhh yes, the multi-purpose superfood that can de-rail any hot date, but is essential for a great detox. Garlic can also help to lower your bad cholesterol, prevent cardiovascular disease and also help to de-stress.

GREEN: Green plants will help give a chlorophyll-boost to your digestive tract. The chlorophyll in these plant based foods will rid the body of harmful environmental toxins, as well as aid the liver in detoxification. This group of superfoods is a blood cleanser, a natural antibiotic and it also reduces blood fats, thinning the blood and lowering blood pressure. Now that’s a great benefit!

WATER: Are you surprised? The best things in life are free…right? Water is like air, you have to drink it to survive! Don’t be afraid to down a few cups in the morning, throughout the day, before any meal and of course during and after a workout. Water will help to flush your kidneys, liver and will also help to hydrate your body’s cells so that they work efficiently and effectively. Drink more water! No excuses…it’s free and available everywhere!

Detoxifying the body is a MUST. Learning to cleanse the mind, body and soul on a regular basis can lead to unbelievable benefits. Remember, cleansing is not fasting…make sure to get enough calories during your detox to maintain solid energy levels! Here’s to a happy, healthy, new cleaner you!
